The Regulation of boatmaster's licence for the Rhine (Rhine Patent)


settles the requirements to be met by crewmen who want to steer a vessel on the Rhine. After having finished a training on board of an inland navigation vessel up to four years they have to take an examination.

After having passed the examination the applicant is issued the Rhine Patent entiteling him to steer a vessel on the Rhine („driving licence“). This Rhine Patent is withdrawn in case of serious infringements.

The authorities of the member states of the CCNR issue some 550 to 600 Rhine Patents per year on average and they extend the validity of about 400 patents.
